Blood Health National Oversight Group Conference 2026

Infected Blood Inquiry: Translating Policy into Practice’

Colleagues from across the UK came together for the BHNOG Conference 2026 on Tuesday 23 June, held at the Vale Resort in South Wales.

Across the day, speakers and attendees explored what the Infected Blood Inquiry means in practice, how we improve safety and quality, and how we plan for a more resilient future. We heard insights across patient safety, digital, education and Patient Blood Management, all linked by a shared aim: safer transfusion practice.

Some reflections from the day include:

Dr Shruthi Narayan, Medical Director, Serious Hazards of Transfusion:
“It has been a great day filled with wonderful talks showcasing all the work that has been done to enable the implementation of the IBI recommendations into practise. What I really enjoyed was the learning about all the different work streams and the progress that has been achieved to date. This really gives us a good platform to share the learning, collaborate on various workstreams and really put the learning into practise as well across the UK and reduce variations.”

Dr Brian Tehan, Chair of the Blood Health National Oversight Group, Consultant Anaesthetist, BCUHB:
“This conference has been a pleasure and education. We hear an awful lot about the work being done by BHNOG, but today has been a wonderful opportunity to give people the chance to stand up, say more about what they are doing, and really elaborate on their work. This helps everyone understand how this work fits into the greater scheme of things, and how widely appreciated it is. I am proud of all the work that has been done by BHNOG, and proud to be able to work with such people who are doing this work.”

Thank you to all attendees, whether in the room or joining online, and a special thank you to our speakers for sharing their expertise.
