Who we are

Introduction from the Chair

In March 2020 Dr Brian Tehan, Consultant Anaesthetist, ICU, based at BCUHB took up the position of BHNOG Chair.

Dr Tehan said “Actively engaging with all Health Boards, the BHNOG is set to build on sound foundations”.

With relationships now clarified there is even greater focus on the Welsh Government Blood Health Plan to explore how we can work together effectively to ensure the strategic objectives are achieved. Blood Health is an issue for all.

Already we are strengthening our engagement with stakeholders and are upping our game on communication. With challenging and interesting times in prospect, I’m very much looking forward to the future and I feel privileged to be working with such enthusiastic and committed people.

BHNOG Key Stakeholders

BHNOG membership includes representation from identifying key stakeholders and additional clinical subject matter experts.  Engagement with national transfusion meetings is bi-directional and BHNOG has a direct link in with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for Wales and the Welsh Medical Directors.

The Welsh Blood Service – Blood Health Team are a multi disciplinary team who manage the facilitation of the work from the BHNOG, and are the reference point for all BHNOG related communications.
